Shell Oil invests $3.9M in UT

Shell Oil Co. has invested $3.9 million for sponsored research at the University of Texas at Austin.

David Onion, the university?s senior associate vice president for development, said UT appreciates its layered partnership with the company. Shell partners with UT?s Cockrell School of Engineering, Jackson School Geosciences and Marine Science Institute.

In addition to sponsored research, Shell is a partner in the Shell-UT Unconventional Research initiative, a five-year, $7.5 million collaboration between Shell and the engineering and geology schools.

?The world is faced with many serious energy-related issues, and it is good to know that Shell, a leader in technology and innovation, has partnered with UT Austin and its energy-rich research initiatives to provide the world the necessary solutions,? Onion said.

About $470,000 of Shell?s donation will support student activities and programs throughout the year.

Shell has given the university more than $24.8 million in donations.
